TMZ has spoken with law enforcement sources -- who now seem to acknowledge the LAPD may have made a mistake by letting Marina Batkis, owner of Mutts and Moms, take back the dog Ellen DeGeneres gave to her hairstylist.

I wish people who call Marina Batkis a animal fanatic would re think that phrase and remove the word animal. The issue of the dogs welfare became secondary as spite and control took over.
The word Fanatic does apply however by itself.
Turning this issue on the cop or LAPD also takes away from Marina's acts which should always in the for front. One battle at a time.
Also I am not convinced Iggy is in a better home but one that was found
on the fly to stop anyone from saying he was put back in a cage at the shelter. It was done fast and out of spite, Perhaps on a temporary basis.

You might think you know what love for a child is, but until you've got one, you don't. I'd do anything for my dog. I'd kill for my kids.
Animals are already considered personal property. Animals being abused can be removed by the proper authorities, such as law enforcement or those duly authorized by law enforcement. A private person, such as a self declared animal rescue worker, does not have that authority, no matter what.
Really, the fringe animal welfare/rescuers out there responding in such ways as you have are doing nothing but confirming that too many of them are not in touch with reality, and those of us looking to add pets to our families are going to be unwilling to deal with you, unfortunately for the animals you care for in such obsessive, controlling ways.

65. Maybe they ARE NOT the legal owners. While everyone is ready to throw common sense down the toilet because THE RULES SAY Ellen signed an agreement. It seems that the resuce agency LET THEIR NON PROFIT STATUS EXPIRE, and did not file the proper papers. So little miss letter of the law , Mutts owner wasn't so great her letter of the law. Since her business was no longer operating under its orginal legal configuartion it had no status to claim ownership. If your going to hide behind the rules, that sword cuts both ways.

66. Mutts and moms just wanted to get publicity, anyone else they would have called and said next itme let us know you're giving the dog away. i think the publicity will backfire, since they obviously did the wrong thing by taking the dog away, Id go to the local shelter if I want to adopt a dog.

As other people who've posted have laready articulated so well, Ms. Baktis broke the law in regard to her contract with Ellen and her seizure of Iggy from teh hairdresser's home.
There are two clear avenues that Muts & Moms have:
1) Continue to stand up for their wrongs and continue denying Iggy the home Iggy he was clearly happy in.
2) Admit that there was "miscommunication" (Ms. Baktis is obviously teh sort who will want to save face at all costs), and arrange for the hairdresser's family to filloutthe papers and then expedite those so that Iggy can be returned -- and then obay teh law and put Iggy's microchip in the hairdresser's name.
If Mutts and Mom's takes the first route, they are willfully breaking the law and validating their own breach of their rules.
With the way Ellen is, it's probably that she would happily have Ms. Baktis on teh show to speak her peace and then have everyone happy and reconciled IF Ms. Baktis would quit using Iggy to punish and power trip Ellen, and just allow him to be returned to the family he was safe and happy with.

68. Isn't a dog an animal?? Then it is property. You don't adopt property, you buy, rent or lease it. When did we start worrying about animals more than we worry about humans. It seems to me that people who love (?) animals over the top, are incapable of normal relationships. I wouldn't want to be around any wack jobs like Ellen

70. Mutts & Moms should be ashamed of themselves! This dog was adopted by Ellen and was Ellen's dog to find a home for if she so choosed. It makes no sense that Mutts & Moms believes they have any right to that dog after an adoption is complete. ARE THESE LADIES CONSTANTLY MONITERING EVERY DOG THEY HAVE ADOPTED OUT, JUST WAITING TO POUNCE IN AND TAKE IT AWAY IF THEY WANT?!?

BACK to the case at hand. WHY and HOW did the LAPD get involved? How stupid can they possibly be? They continue to lower the bar all on their own when it comes to "law enforcement". But this so called animal adoption business us beyond the pale. They DO NOT POSSESS any authority whatsoever and furthermore they have violated Ms. Ellen's civil rights.
