LAPD May Have Erred in Ellen Dog Case

TMZ has spoken with law enforcement sources -- who now seem to acknowledge the LAPD may have made a mistake by letting Marina Batkis, owner of Mutts and Moms, take back the dog Ellen DeGeneres gave to her hairstylist.

The story aired last night on TMZ TV.

76. Give me a break! Common sense should have prevailed in this case. There was no justifiable reason to remove that dog..With the publicity, I hope they face the consequences of being so completely heartless. That women had absolutely no feelings for those young girls..Control Freak!

Chips are supposed to be recognized ONLY IF THE PET IS A LOST AND FOUND CASE.
It does not imply exclusive "ownership". Most rescue and placement agencies utilize them for this purpose only.

Uh... #75 "TIRED"... it's someone who comes on a discussion board to scold people for discussing the topic, and then announces what they should be thinking about is the one who really needs to GET A LIFE.

I bought….oh excuse me, I adopted 2 cats from a place called Last Chance Rescue. I assume that means they were heading for extermination if no one wanted them. They eat with us, they sleep with us. I paid $1,500 on surgery for one of them because you can’t buy health insurance for animals. They’re like members of my family, but they are still ANIMALS.

My son has a girlfriend who is a fanatic like you. She loves animals. She hates kids; she’s too selfish to have a child. She really doesn’t like anybody. She’s is the most self-centered, obnoxious, aggressive, egotistical, “always right” person I’ve ever met, and I’m waiting for him to open his eyes and get rid of her.

She also sounds just like you and this goofball running the animal place. Maybe you 3 could get together and hang out. I bet you have a lot in common.

81. jmo- You obviously don't understand that shelters exist to rescue dogs, not make children feel better. Those are two completely different goals.

82. @Alecsmom

I think you don't understand.

it is against the law to solicit donations with an expired license, but the organization continued to collect donations with a suspended license.

They are not a rescue agency...but a pet shop. Pet shops don't adopt dogs...they sell them. They illegal got donations...they can't do this. So that contract can't be worth anything if everything about that BUSINESS is a lie.

83. There have been threats made and words said. I say find their source of income and start there. Are they self supporting? "OR" do they rely on public donations and volunteers? Do they have a seated board with officers? What about by-laws? Some of the things I've read about them, stretch reality a bit far. Children and pets go together and have even slept in the same bed together. It is part of growing up. I say hit them in their pocketbook.

Love your post, very well thought out!

85. First off it is not a registered rescue. No reputable rescue would have placed a dog not neutered or spayed in a home. Ellen paid for the dog and invested money in it. It is her dog! Give it back to the kids and put these people out of business.

86. Bronco Birdbath - There is no such word as puntative. Clearly your brain is not "fully functional". You probably meant putative, an uncommon word used by guys with uncommonly dim intellects when they wish to appear intelligent.

87. Ellen should sue her and get the dog back. That lady from Mutts and Moms is on a power trip and gives all the wonderful rescues out there a bad name.

88. They were not a legal rescue. They are not registered. They are a pet shop illegally soliciting donations. Any reputable rescue would never place a dog that was not neutered or spayed first. Ellen BOUGHT this dog and it is hers to do as she pleases. I hope this goes to court and these people are put out of business. Don't give me this is just a dog thing! That is why so many end up in shelters. My dog is as much part of my family as my kids are.

89. I would like Muts and Moms or their lawyer to explain why their business license is suspended. Would like to hear how they figure they can do business under the suspended license. And of course would like them prosecuited for doing business while their license is suspended.

90. >LAPD May Have Erred in Ellen Dog Case

May have erred? It's simple, if the cop had paperwork to sieze the dog he was right, if he didn't he was impersonating a judge and should be arrested. It's just like a F****** cop though, trying to act like he has authority where he actually has none.

Don't get me wrong, I don't give a S*** about lawyers either, but I think Ellen should sue everyone that blinks, starting with the LAPD.
